Personal Branding Shoot for Milton Keynes Artist
Over the years I’ve done several shoots for Sarah Kelleher, a Milton Keynes Artist and local card designer. In the past we focussed on the card designs themselves, but this shoot was a personal branding shoot, so we were focussing more closely on Sarah – her personality, her process and her passion for art and design. It was a joy to take pictures of Sarah in her beautiful home and her art studio.
Sarah’s cards often feature flower designs, as well as a gorgeous new dog range. You can see the full range on her website here. Like many dog lovers who work at home, her dog keeps her company for much of the day when she’s working, so I made sure to get a few shots of them together.
Pre-shoot Planning and Mood Board
As you might expect, Sarah’s home is as colourful as her card designs and so I was keen to include as much of the decor as possible in the images. The mood board below shows some of the ideas I had in mind prior to the shoot, then we chose the areas of the house that would look the most photogenic in the images.
Showing the client working at home
Sarah has a studio where she paints and organises her card orders, but she also loves to work with the ipad on the sofa cuddled up with her dog buddy.
Behind the Scenes Shots
Since Sarah is an artist, I wanted to show a little of her process. When coming up with design ideas for new ranges, she begins with freehand drawing and painting. Then she brings everything together with design software, creating the final image that will be printed onto the cards.
Plants always make a great backdrop for images and were in keeping with the overall colour palette in the images.
Branding Photography in Your Own Home
These days there are some fabulous location houses set up for branding shoots, but it’s always great to shoot in a client’s home when possible so that the images are more personal. We will have a varied shot list, but I always include of the shots known as ‘Laptops and Lattes.’
Other Products in Sarah’s Range
As well as cards, Sarah has recently produced a range of wrapping paper featuring her flower designs, so we made sure to get a few shots to showcase these products. Couldn’t resist a couple of shots with this gorgeous wallpaper.
Photos for Magazine Articles
Small businesses are often looking for PR opportunities. Having a bank of branding photos ready is always a bonus when approaching magazines. They often won’t have a budget for photography and are more likely to be receptive to writing a feature about you if you can supply professional photos to support the article.
